High School Band

I hope this letter finds you enjoying a fun and relaxing summer!  Summer is only a few weeks old, but the 2024-2025 school year is just around the corner.  We have been very busy preparing for a great upcoming year!

Following you will find important information for Band Camp and our Fall activities. Please check the schedule carefully to ensure you are at all the appropriate events.  All events are absolutely mandatory unless otherwise noted.  Summer camp is our time to lay the foundation for a successful marching season.  These summer rehearsals are extremely important.  Be on time and prepared.  If you have ANY potential conflicts or questions, please clear your calendar now and contact Mr. Marsh immediately.  Those of you with work issues need to begin making arrangements now.  It’s going to be hot during camp.  If you have been sitting inside on the couch this summer, please start acclimating yourself to the heat now!

BAND CAMP 2024

Click here to access this year’s band camp schedule.

Due to the early school start date and the move to a four day school week, our band camp schedule is different this year.  We are starting 1 week earlier this year (July 22) to help with this, but overall we are still losing a considerable amount of rehearsal time.  Once school starts, we will rehearse for 4 hours on Mondays to help offset this loss.  Once we arrive in September we will return to our normal 2 hour rehearsals.

Currently, I have kept our Monday rehearsals at 6-8 p.m.  I think this will allow you to have your Mondays basically “free.”  However, I am open to moving this time up in the day if the majority of students desire that change.  We will discuss this more in August.

BAND App

This along with our social media pages will be THE PRIMARY form of digital communication. Please download the app and register immediately.  Students and parents alike can and should register to stay informed.

PHYSICALS AND NEW MANDATED HEAT PROTOCOLS

UIL Pre-Participation Physical Form

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Form

Please take care of your physicals (this is a state mandate) BEFORE camp begins.  In addition to your family physician, there are a number of clinics that offer UIL Pre-Participation Physicals at a low cost and with little scheduling wait.  You do not need multiple physicals if you are participating in Athletics and Band.  Be sure you have copies for both groups.  If you need assistance in scheduling a physical or financial assistance in paying for the physical, please contact me ASAP (jmarsh@chisumisd.org. 903-826-5575).

We will have additional safe-guards in place to help protect against Heat related illnesses.  ALL students are encourage to take necessary precautions prior to attending camp.  You must begin hydrating BEFORE you arrive.  While we will provide water and sports drinks, coming to camp hydrated is critical.  Please plan on wearing appropriate clothing (light colored shirts, shorts, hats, etc.).  You may wish to bring your own water containers that may include water jugs, backpack hydrations systems, etc.

Please begin acclimating yourself to the heat well in advance of July 22.  It takes 7-14 days to appropriately acclimate yourself to the extreme temperatures we will see in July and August.

TRIP 2024!

I was very disappointed that last year’s trip fell through due to circumstances beyond our control.  This is year, we plan to make the Hot Spring trip happen in house!!!

Plans are still being made, but I expect the trip to happen sometime in April and cost each student between $100-150.  Please be looking for more details soon.
